Why don't woom bikes have a coaster brake?
A coaster brake has substantial disadvantages compared to a hand-operated brake:
Limited braking ability in high-risk situations:
A coaster brake requires the pedals to be in a specific position to engage. If not, the rider won't be able to stop the bike effectively, which can be dangerous in urgent situations.
Harder to get started:
On bikes with coaster brakes, the pedals need to be in the right position for the rider to start pedaling. This can make it more challenging for kids to get going.
At woom, we believe it's essential for kids to learn the proper braking technique from the start. That's why all our bikes and balance bikes feature child-friendly hand-operated brakes, helping them develop the right skills as they grow.
